Let Us Die To Make Men Free

My title is taken from the well-known “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” emphasizing the just cause of freeing slaves. The song lifts the necessity of sacrifice to accomplish the highest goals. Christ's sacrifice and shedding of blood to make men holy, and the shedding of union soldier blood to make men free. Our founding documents are laced with the truth that freedom is achieved and kept only when there is a willingness to sacrifice. The root of our celebration this weekend is the sacrifice others have made—sacrifices on all American battlefields in our history and present day, and the highest example of sacrifice, Jesus shed blood on the old rugged cross. We enjoy our freedoms and are thankful for those who have fought to make America the best place on earth to live. But this year, we remember that there are still sacrifices to be made. In the physical and in the spiritual realm, the battle over America is not over. The words “let us die to make men free” still ring true today.

From Series: "Hope Found Here"

This series will focus on the hope we have in Jesus Christ. That even as we see storm clouds on the horizon, we know all is well because Christ lives within us. We will talk about the power of the Holy Spirit to equip the church to be a "Hope Found Here" church, and offer tangible help to hurting people through gifts of the Holy Spirit working within God's people.
